Welcome everyone! I’m excited to share my top 10 tips for making your press-on nails last as long as possible. Taking good care of your nails is so important for maintaining their health and keeping those press-ons looking fabulous.

Let’s dive right into the top tricks I’ve learned over my career in the nail industry:

Tip 1: Prepare Your Natural Nails Properly

Healthy, strong natural nails are key for press-ons to adhere well and last. Before applying press-ons, make sure to buff and clean your natural nails. Gently file away any loose cuticles or roughness. Then, wipe nails clean with nail polish remover or isopropyl alcohol to remove any oils or dirt. Well-prepped nails provide the best surface for attachment.

Tip 2: Choose the Right Size

Getting the correct size is essential. Take your time measuring each nail bed to find press-ons that are slightly wider than your natural nails. Too small won’t stay on, too big won’t look natural. Make sure none of the edges are hanging over your finger - a flush fit is ideal. Proper sizing allows nails to lay flat without lifting.

Tip 3: Apply Base Coat or Primer

Similar to regular nail polish, using a base coat or nail strengthener under your press-ons creates a protective barrier for a longer wear time. This seals the nail and provides extra bonding power. Let the base coat dry fully before pressing on nails.

Tip 4: Properly Position and Smooth Down Each Nail

Take your time positioning each press-on nail perfectly straight and centered before securing it down. Then, use an orange wood stick to carefully smooth out any air bubbles from the center outwards. This pressing motion embeds the nail tight against your natural nail for a lasting, virtually invisible application. Rushing can result in lifted edges.

Tip 5: Seal with Top Coat

Just like regular polish, finishing with a non-chip topcoat over the entire press-on nail protects the color and seals the edges down for an extra 2-3 days of wear.

Tip 6: Go Easy on Water Exposure

While press-ons can handle light activities like washing dishes, try to minimize direct water exposure like long hot showers or swimming, which can cause edges to lift prematurely as the nails absorb moisture. If you do get them wet, let them fully air dry before doing any tasks to prevent damage.

Tip 7: Gently Push Back Cuticles

Every few days, lightly push back any cuticles that may have grown up around the edge of the nails using an orange stick. This prevents lifting by keeping the skin trimmed up neatly against the nail plate. Be very gentle - no cutting!

Tip 8: Apply Cuticle Oil Daily

Dry, brittle cuticles are more prone to bacteria and lifting of the nails. Investing in a good cuticle oil will keep the skin plump and flexible for a better seal against the nail edges. Massage a few drops into the skin around nails once a day, especially before bed.

Tip 9: Moisturize Your Hands Frequently

In addition to daily cuticle oil, having frequently moisturized hands and fingers helps prolong the life of your press-ons. Dry, cracked skin is more prone to catching on fibers and surfaces, increasing the risk of snags that can prematurely lift nails. Keep skin supple with a good lightweight hand cream applied several times a day.

Tip 10: Hand Massages for Relaxation

Beyond just nail care, relaxing your hands can also help press-ons last longer. Gently massage hands and give yourself a mini manicure once a day to relax muscles and boost blood flow. This keeps the nail beds healthy for stronger, longer-lasting press-on adhesion.

Well those are my top 10 insider tips for keeping your press-on nails looking their very best!
